One Light Portraits

Portrait #1

Glamorous shot of Liza: How I would convey affection or adoration of a subject

The light was positioned directly over head. The light is softer in intensity due to diffusion from diffusion paper. I used a silver reflector board to the left of Liza, and the tiny highlight in the bottom left of her eyes shows how the incident angle of the light from above is equal to the angle of reflection of the fill light.

Portrait #2

Mysterious shot of Liza: How I would convey mystery, anxiousness, or fear of a subject

The light was positioned directly behind Liza's head, level with her neck. This set up illustrates how light falls off of the background. The white wall behind her reflects light to illuminate her hair and separate her from the background. I placed a silver reflector to the left of her face to fill in some details. The silver board also creates a tiny highlight in her eyes that seems non-human.
